Rejected Moon

As they confront their painful pasts and the powerful mating bond they once rejected, can they forge a new future together, or will they be torn apart by old wounds?

Rejected Moon

Dirigo Pack Series Book 4

by Sabrina Silvers

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Nik Connal has lived his life in the shadows, on borrowed time. As a rogue, he was supposed to be killed the moment he was exiled from his birth pack, rejected by his father, and condemned by all who knew him. Instead of sinking into despair, he gathered a pack of others like him and forged his own path, determined to make a difference, outside the pack hierarchy, yet always determined to find a home for himself and his pack. He lived a life of lies, did things he hated, all for a greater good.

Until he came face to face with the mate he was forced to reject.

Isa Sinclair knows what it's like to be abused and tortured, to be at the mercy of those stronger than her. Now that she is the number three enforcer in the Chesapeake Pack, she takes her duties as protector seriously. When she is asked to help those wolves abused by the Saranac Alpha, she willingly accepts, until she is confronted by a ghost from her past, a ghost she never expected to see again.

As Nik and Isa confront the mating bond that ties them together, can they navigate the dangers of their present, and overcome the pain of their past to find a new future, healed and whole together? Or will they fall back into despair, alone and broken? Rejected.

About the Author

Sabrina Silvers began her writing career dreaming of elves, orcs, and hobbits in the fantasy section of her local library, looking in wardrobes for Narnia and Aslan, and hunting for gnomes in the forest. To her dismay, she never found any of them except between the pages of her books. So, she had to go out and create them for herself, leading to her lifelong love of reading and writing and dreaming about adventures, fantasy creatures and love in fantasy lands! She divides her time between writing sexy contemporary romances under a different pen name, reading, knitting and being owned by a very spoiled cocker spaniel who does not share her love of fantasy creatures.

The Mutiny of the American Foreign Legion

They fought America's wars, now they're fighting for their own freedom.

The Mutiny of the American Foreign Legion

Rebels of the American Hemisphere Book 1

by Neal Alexander

Genre: Thriller

Hugo Ayala has burned his bridges with the Colombian military by denouncing murders committed by his former officers. After surviving a bloody assignment in Yemen with an American security company, he completes U.S. Army basic training. But he's blocked from becoming a green card soldier by new anti-immigration laws. He stays on as an illegal, and joins the American Foreign Legion, an immigration rights group whose members have fought for the USA.

Meanwhile, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is detaining and deporting thousands of people a day, without due process. But now the communities being targeted include Hugo and others who know how to fight back. The leader of the AFL has his own political backers and doubtful motives. As each side ratchets up the violence, American political unity starts to crack.

This gripping thriller which draws on current events and little-known facts:

- Many non-citizens serve in the US armed forces and as employees of American security contractors. For example, the second US Marine killed in action in the Iraq War was Guatemalan. A recent MIT study of these green card soldiers is subtitled “Between Model Immigrant and Security Threat”.

- Border Patrol agents “have gone from having one of the most obscure jobs in law enforcement to one of the most hated,” according to the New York Times. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deport people without due process, including US Citizens.

- A recent Chicago Tribune op-ed describes how current how the current “struggles over immigration echo the conflict over slavery”. Confrontations in Texas over immigration have been described as “civil war” in the New York Times.

EXCERPT

After dark, there wasn’t much traffic in Saada. Hugo heard the groaning of a heavy truck on the road behind him, outside the city wall. Then the angrier sound of a faster vehicle coming the other way, then locked wheels scraping against the dirt road. As Hugo turned around to look over the outer parapet, he heard a glooping sound, then saw an Arabian Humvee flip over and down into a ditch full of sewage.

After a shocked split second, Hugo heard shouts from a soldier inside the Humvee. As Hugo ran down the steps to the bottom of the wall, he called over the radio that he was coming to the assistance of the Arabian soldiers. He burst past the policemen, who were edging away from the gate and towards the ditch but were unsure what to do. As he ran in front of the stalled truck, he reached down to his belt and unsheathed his knife. One Arabian soldier was standing at the edge of the ditch, covered in slurry, gazing blankly at the upturned driveshaft of the Humvee.

The head of another soldier was shat up to the surface. Hugo grabbed the arm of the dazed soldier and tried to ask “How many?” in Arabic. The soldier turned his shit-smeared face to Hugo and gradually worked out where he was and what Hugo meant. “One. Driver,” he replied.

Hugo nodded and released the soldier’s arm. He looked at the Humvee again: luckily it was leaning on the passenger side. Then he took a deep breath and dove into the cesspool. He thought back to his training in the Colombian Naval Infantry: imagined he was going into the same pond full of cow shit on the savanna near Bogotá. Cow shit was cleaner somehow. The effluent closed over him as he kicked his legs to swim down along the side of the Humvee. He found the handle to the driver’s door. He didn’t need to force it open, which meant that the inside of the vehicle was already flooded. The driver inside was struggling spastically. Hugo couldn’t pay him any heed now: he had to find the harness that was holding him in. The driver started to grab onto him: his only salvation. Hugo couldn’t lose the knife, so he wrestled free, heedless of the risk of cutting the driver. The struggle was using up Hugo’s air, and he forced himself to stay calm. Now the driver was expiring, flailing aimlessly. Hugo found the harness, cut it, and dragged the driver out. He took a second to check that all the driver’s limbs were free, then kicked back up. On breaking the surface, he snorted out the human waste from his nostrils before gasping for air.

 EXCERPT

CHAPTER ONE

A cool autumn breeze, in the twilight, wrapped around our exile who sat on a bench in front of a bookstore that resembled a place we might find in a Tolkien novel. On this street, rue de la Buccheri, was the bookstore Shakespeare and Company. The store itself was famous for housing the books of many great literary artists on their shelves. They also supported any young or old artistic vagabonds by allowing them to sleep in the aisles of the bookstore on makeshift beds when finding themselves homeless.

Ron, who managed the store, sat on this bench every evening thinking of Michael. Ron thought of things he remembered and how much he learnt from Michael. He felt the emptiness in his soul, yearning to have that connection just one more time. He had lived in Paris for six years now, a brief time for an exile, yet he was free from a society drowning in untruths; his refuge was the bookstore.

Just like every night, as Ron prepared to close the store, he occasionally checked the front of the store, looking for his friend. Then, he noticed another young man still looking at books on the outside shelves.

Ron moved outside to get a closer look at the late customer under the guise of moving the outdoor book bins back inside. He suddenly noticed that the young man was putting a book down his pants.

Ron raised his voice and shouted for the thief to put the book back on the shelf. The young man, caught in the act, ran away.

The young man sprinted and tripped while running past the café. In this stumble, he decided to turn the corner and make his way rapidly toward la Seine.

Ron, weak in the legs from forgetting the spirit of his youth, had been managing bookstores more than living life. His legs pumped forward. but with the awkwardness of an old man who had forgotten how to walk. In a few seconds he was up to speed and ran faster to catch the thief.

Near the corner, Ron had missed his opportunity to slow and check for other people walking, so he slammed into a group of women. He especially blasted into an old lady whose groceries flew into the sky, and a yogurt splattered against a wall and the faces of the other women. She turned to condemn her assailant, but he was already on the next block in pursuit of the thief.

He spotted the thief at the Notre Dame Hotel, out of breath, leaning against a pillar. Surprised at the thief’s choice to stop here, he slowed down and let his feet pound the street into a halt.

Ron grabbed at him but still missed his shoulder.

“Give me the book back!” he said, very loudly.

The thief just shrugged his shoulder, a mocking smile. His smile made the act of chasing him through the streets feel silly, as if this were a game that had been played and he took it too seriously.

The thief looked at Ron and asked, sarcastically, “What language are you speaking?”

“What do mean? I am speaking French!”

Our thief laughed, turned to a random man who walked down the street, and said, "This young man thinks he is speaking French Go ahead say something to this stranger; he will tell you are speaking some other language other than French!”

“I will call the police,” Ron said firmly.

About the Author

After years of writing romance under the pen name Blake Allwood, I decided to pursue my other genre passion, fantasy and science fiction. Adam J. Ridley is the reality of that pursuit.

My husband of 28 years and I have had an adventurous life. We’ve had many businesses, we’ve raised over twelve foster children, two of which we adopted, and had at least two professional careers.

To say we are people who seek experiences is an understatement.

As I’ve grown older, my passions seem to be better reflected in my imagination. Fantasy, urban fantasy,  and science fiction all allow me to escape into worlds that transcend life. I’ve always been a major lover of fantasy writing and started reading it at a rather young age.

My husband and I travel full-time now in our RV (caravan for those not in the United States.) We’ve been doing this since 2017 and y’all, we love it.

Please join me on Facebook, and other social media sites. I work hard to be easily accessible to my readers, cause you all are the reason for all the lovely work!

 GUEST POST

Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie?

Of all my novels, the setting of Killer Motives begs for the big screen. The Hudson Valley is

spectacularly beautiful, and the region is steeped in history and legend. Setting the book there

just before Halloween, which is the biggest holiday of the year in Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown,

makes it all the more inviting. I can see the images of the Halloween parade, the backdrop of the

Hudson River, a few scenes in Manhattan. We actually won Best Audiobook Mystery from

Audiobook Reviewer Magazine, Robin McAlpine and myself, and no small part due to Robin’s

expert narration bringing it to life. Imagine what a visual element would bring. Come on all you

film people out there. Let’s do this!

Do you have any “side stories” about the characters?

I just wrote a short story about the detective in this book, Jack Stark. In Killer Motives, Jack

talks about cold cases that he goes back to once in a while and works on. I always had this idea

to bring to Honolulu for a cold case here, so the story goes back in time 30 years prior when he

was married to another woman who he later divorced. And then it goes past the series when he

comes to Honolulu with his new wife, who was a character in one of the books. I just wrote the

story and am mulling over whether it’s good enough to put up on my website as a freebie. I had

to write it though, because sometimes a story will just stick in my head until I get it on the page.

Advice they would give new authors?

I just read Stephen King’s On Writing. It was excellent, not only as a writing advice book but as

a memoir. It made me think a lot about why I do this. It also had some great tips for craft. But

more than anything else, it validated what I’d already pretty much gleaned on my own. It never

gets any easier, and we are all constantly filled with self-doubt about our next book, even the

GOATS.

What is something unique/quirky about you?

I’m a little neurotic and I like things a certain way. If I see a doormat that’s crooked for example,

I will straighten it. Before we go to bed, I have to have all the pillows on the sofa in the right

place. My husband will mess with me and like move them after I get them in the right place and I

tell him you’re messing with the universe, dude. Sometimes I put this into my writing. For

example, in The Stepfamily, when Laura Foster goes out to check her car and pump the brakes

before driving down the hill, she mentions that she’s the kind of person who runs back into the

house to make sure she’s turned off the stove. I used to be the kind of person who had to pull

back the handle on the mailbox to make sure the letter dropped down, but they’ve replaced those

with slots so that doesn’t happen much anymore. Phew!

Victoria was home working off some nervous energy as she put the dishes away and wiped

yesterday’s smudges off the white Shaker cabinet doors. Out the kitchen window, the sun

sparkled magically on the Hudson River reflecting the scarlet and gold of the fall foliage clinging

to its steep banks. Her melancholy mood from the evening before had turned to excitement,

bolstered by a bit too much caffeine on an empty stomach and her Alanis jams playing in the

background. She had already called her attorney and had an appointment for next week. She

would put all that out of mind until then. Today, she had a meeting scheduled at her office at

eleven this morning, an important one, and her benefit dinner tonight. It was now half past nine

and she needed to get going. She was almost finished emptying the dishwasher in her methodical

manner--only a few cups were left--when her cell phone vibrated against the granite island

countertop, its dark surface blending in with the stone. She reached over to grab it. There was a

text from her husband: It’s an emergency. Call me.

There were also three missed calls from him and a voicemail. Nick was not given to

hyperbole. Quite the opposite. He was actually a bit too laid back, never worrying much about

anything. He had never sent a text like that before. She called immediately, not bothering to

check her voicemail, putting it on speaker as she finished her chores.

“Vic?” His voice was soft, almost apologetic. He didn’t seem hurt or in danger.

“Nick. What is it?” She felt mildly annoyed, already.

“I have something to tell you, and I’m warning you it’s pretty shocking.” Was he actually

going to confess about the affair now? Over a cell call? That was totally unlike him.

“I have to get to work, Nick. What’s so urgent?” She was starting to wish she’d ignored his

text.

“My client. From the Shady Hill property. The one I went to see last night? The police called

me. She was found dead. At her house. This morning.”

Victoria placed the last clean mug on the counter. Dead? A heart attack or something? No.

The police wouldn’t call Nick for something like that. There had to be more to it. She picked up

the phone and took it off speaker.

“What happened?” She wasn’t sure she wanted to know the answer.

“I don’t know, but a homicide detective is meeting me at the house any minute now. They

called and wanted to meet with me in person. ‘See if I could shed some light on it,’ was how he

put it. Jeff told me to meet them at our house, not at the station.”

“Homicide? She was murdered?” Victoria had to hand it to Nick. This certainly reached the

bar of ‘emergency.’

“They didn’t say that, exactly. He said he’d tell me more in person. I don’t know much more

than you do at this point. What if I was the last person to see her alive, Vic?” Nick’s voice was

shakier now, almost panicky.

“So? You’re certainly not responsible for her death?”

“That’s what Jeff said.”

“What does Jeff have to do with this? You called Jeff before you called me?” She thought

that sounded like the actions of a guilty person, reaching out to your attorney friend. But guilty

of what?

“He’s an attorney! And he knows her! I told you, remember? They had that law suit going.

Let’s not do this now. Please!” His tone was harsher now, devoid of sentimentality. “I just

wanted to give you a heads-up. The detective might get there before I do. They’ll probably want

to question you too. Tell them I’m on my way. I’d appreciate some support. I’m your husband,

Victoria, please try to remember that.” He hung up.

She picked up the mug she’d left on the counter, looking out to the sun’s rays sparkling on

the Hudson, her thoughts suspended in the timeless currents of the flowing river. It was all

starting to hit her now, just what a disaster this was. The photos that were supposed to liberate

her from the marriage were now a liability, potentially placing her at a crime scene. What do

detectives look for? Means, motive, and opportunity? She had two out of three for now. Should

she be worried? And what about Nick? He was acting strangely last night, and she’d attributed it

to a guilty conscience. The affair, she assumed. But could it have been more? She knew Nick

wasn’t overtly violent, but anyone could commit murder given the right circumstances. What if

the woman had gotten pushy? Demanding? Threatening? How far would Nick go to protect what

was his? She needed time to think, consult with an attorney. But she didn’t have the luxury of

time.

The gate buzzer sounded, jolting her out of her stupor, and the mug slipped from her hand,

shattering into pieces on the travertine tile floor. She quickly picked up the big chunks, but the

shards of porcelain would have to wait.
